The Cusco Festivities were officially presented with a dramatization of an Inca ritual at the Temple of Qorikancha.
The esplanade of the ancient Temple of Qorikancha in Cusco was the stage for the theatrical performance of the Inca ritual ‘Tinkuy Pachamama’ or ‘Encounter with Mother Earth’, through which the 2024 Cusco Festivities were officially launched.
The Municipal Company of Cusco Festivities – Emufec, was responsible for carrying out this dramatization, which was appreciated by locals, national and foreign tourists who gathered at the aforementioned esplanade.
There were 150 actors on stage, led by David Ancca and Norbina Gallegos, in the roles of the Inca and the Qoya, respectively.
“In this way, the activities in tribute to the city of Cusco begin, with a vast program that includes cultural, recreational, gastronomic, literary, sports, among other events, which will be developed for more than 40 days and the Cusqueños will be the main protagonists,” quoted Miguel Angel Paz, president of the Emufec board of directors.
Remember that Inti Raymi is a celebration of Inca origin that was erected by order of Pachacuteq, however, in the mid-16th century, it was abolished in the viceroyalty, to be recovered in 1944, since when it has been held every June 24th in the city of Cusco, where the complete performance of the Inti Raymi takes place in Sacsayhuaman.
