First part of Inti Raymi: 9:00 am at the Temple of the Sun Qoricancha

The start of Inti Raymi in Cusco is an impressive ceremony that takes place at Qoricancha, the temple of the sun. There, the Inca, accompanied by the royalty and the Qoya, makes a reverence to the sun god, Inti. With his words, they invoke the powerful sun and ask for success in the ceremony. “Oh, sun god, our father, powerful sun of eternal happiness, warm source and beginning of life. From this, your sacred dwelling in Cusco, where you dwell with the Moon, the Ray, and the Thunder, your children of the Empire of the Four Regions, we humbly greet you on your jubilee day.” This is the beginning of Inti Raymi, a ceremony that celebrates life and fertility and is one of the most important in Inca culture.

Second part of Inti Raymi: 10:30 am Aucaypata or main square of Cusco

After the culmination of the first phase of Inti Raymi at Qoricancha, the Inca, his royal entourage, and the Imperial Army begin a solemn procession through ancient Inca streets, including Calle Loreto, which leads them to the Plaza de Armas, specifically to Aucaypata. At this location, the Nustas, Aqllas (chosen ones), and the entire imperial army are already present, positioning themselves in the Plaza de Armas to await the arrival of the Inca. In this scenario, the Inca, as the maximum ruler of the Empire, performs the Coca ceremony, and through it, he invokes the Apus to grant them protection and guidance.

Third part of Intiraymi: around 1 pm at Saqsayhuaman, approximately 5 km away from Cusco’s main square.

After the conclusion of the Coca ceremony at Aucaypata Square, the cast moves towards the impressive esplanade of the Sacsayhuaman archaeological park. There, a crowd of about 80,000 people, including 3,500 tourists who have purchased tickets for the stands installed on the esplanade, eagerly await the start of the central ceremony of Inti Raymi.
