The organization of the Inti Raymi festival in 2024 is being handled by EMUFEC. The Municipality of Cusco, by Law No. 27431, holds the corresponding copyright for the Inti Raymi, and it has the authority to authorize the staging of the festival in any location in the country or abroad.
What is EMUFEC?
EMUFEC is the government institution responsible for the organization, implementation, and commercialization of the Inti Raymi festival. The acronym stands for the Municipal Company of Festivities and Tourist Promotion of Cusco. Its tasks include:
- Organizing the Inti Raymi festival logistically
- Promoting the Inti Raymi festival
- Selling tickets for the Inti Raymi festival
- Supervising everything related to this event
EMUFEC also organizes the entire calendar of festivities in Cusco for the month of June
EMUFEC holds the Inti Raymi festival on June 24th. Additionally, it promotes and directs a rich program of activities that take place around the Inti Raymi festival between the months of May, June, and July. It organizes and coordinates all events included in the Festivity Calendar throughout the year.
These festivities in Cusco range from cheerful and colorful parades made up of schools, higher education institutions, civil organizations, government organizations, and private institutions to light and music festivals for the general population and tourists traveling through Cusco.
As Cusco is filled with celebrations during its jubilee month, EMUFEC is responsible for ensuring that all of these activities are properly organized. The Inti Raymi festival is the main event, and therefore, an extensive logistical effort involving hundreds of people is carried out on the Saqsayhuaman esplanade.
Throughout the month of June, the city of Cusco is filled with music, dance, festivities, and color in commemoration of the symbolic anniversary of Cusco. For this reason, many travelers seek to plan their trips to Peru in this month to witness all these celebrations. If they are lucky enough to coincide with June 24th, they can enjoy the Inti Raymi festival.
